Outfit Homerun

I'm going through a miniskirt phase. I bought a miniskirt at Old Navy for two bucks awhile ago, and now that fall has arrived, I've been wearing it a lot with knee high riding boots. So, today, the 2 dollar miniskirt was dirty, so I wore a pencil skirt instead. I wore white fishnets, my awesome boots, the khaki pencil skirt, green turtle neck and my Military inspired coat I got from Kolhs. I don't have pictures and this isn't a style blog, so you'll have to use your imagination.

Anyways, I went to Old Navy today because I wanted a corduroy mini. That was all I was going to get, but they had so many things on sale...like the cami's with the bras built in, basic t-shirts and that awesome thing they do where they give you an extra 30% off the clearance price. Tragically, there were no corduroy minis, but there were other minis. So I got three minis. A dark denim one, a pigment dyed green one, and a tan corduroy one, which wasn't in clearance but was amazingly on sale for 16 bucks (I thought it was 24.)

Now, let's get to the title of this post. First off, I thought I looked kind of silly, but I REALLY wanted to wear a skirt and fishnets. I figured I'd buy a mini skirt and go home and change and then go about my day. Well, while I was there I managed to get a few compliments. My boots almost always get compliments. I got them last spring on super sale. I then, from what looked like a store head hancho, got a compliment on my fishenets. This surprised me on many levels, as I thought they looked kind of silly. (I got white ones because there is this one outfit that Rory Gilmore wears in the sixth season I love and I thought she was wearing white fishnets. Later, I realized, she was wearing black or gray ones. Not white.) When I was checking out, the cashier liked my coat. I love my coat, but I hate the way it closes with eyelets. So, after leaving Old Navy and getting great deals, I also got compliments and felt I had a winning outfit.

Till I got home and put on one of the new minis and realized the mini is the way to go, not a pencil skirt.

Ode to my iPhone

Things I love about having an iPhone:

1. I finally feel "with it."
2. I love that the touch screen works. I have a touch screen on my camera and you have to pound it to get it to do anything. This works with a basic touch.
3. I love that its got a pretty good camera for a phone.
4. I love that its also an iPod at the same time, as I needed a new iPod.
5. I love the speaker on it. Seriously, I can play music anywhere, anytime, any place! I love putting my phone in my back pocket and dancing around the house.
6. I love that is came with earphones. I love Apple earphones because I'm lame.
7. I also love finally having a new Apple product in my life.
8. I never understood the appeal of apps till now. I love finding strange free apps.
9. I love having email, facebook and twitter at my finger tips and not having to lug my laptop all over the place.
10. I love being able to find places in town now. No more driving around lost.

Things that aren't so great about my iPhone....

1. I'm not really with it because its a 3GS phone. The newest version, but still.
2. I hate the camera takes so long to boot up. seriously. I want to take a damn picture NOW. Not in ten minutes.
3. I hate that my dog doesn't respond to the Dog Whistle app. She ignore me.
4. People look at me funny when I have music coming out of my butt.
5. Why can I not change the colors of the text message bubbles? In iChat I could change them, why can't I change them on my iPhone?
6. Why are iPod accessories so damn expensive?
7. Why does the keyboard sometimes go landscape and other times I have to bash it into my hand to get it to move?
8. Why doesn't Etsy have a iPhone friendly website? I hate looking at Etsy on my iPhone. Etsy should talk to PurseBlog.com. They have their shit together (sometimes. Sometimes their mobile website doesn't load right.) Okay, look at Sephora. They have their shit together.
9. I wanted a white iPhone so I could get a clear case and show off the apple. They only had black.
10. Why did you come out with a new shuffle after I just got one? (I hate the shuffle I have. Its kind of dumb. I should have waited a year...)
11. I know number 10 has nothing to do with my iPhone, but I ran out of things to complain about.

the dog days are gone

Summer has ended.

It snowed this morning. Also, the leaves have all turned various shades of brown and yellow and begun to topple to the ground. Most were helped to the ground my the massive amount of wind we had on Friday. Basil Bea blew away at one point. Off went the puppy into the backyard, carried by the wind.

Last weekend, we went hiking around a lake and I was amazed how fall like the world around me had become since i had stopped seeing it due to being encased in fog. I got excited to bring out my sweaters and comfy clothing. I've worn various light weight sweaters since that point in time, as the heavy duty ones aren't made for low 40s sort of weather. However, with fall, comes the annual cold. I feel it setting in and it kind of sucks. At least I finished my fall line for Ireland Scott. Now, I just need to start making Christmas cards. Hopefully I'll get out and get some Christmas stuff this week so I can get started. They won't sell and I don't need them, but I love making them anyways.

On the matter of the giveaway, I had kind of hoped more people would enter it...but alas, only four people entered. I let it run for two weeks to give myself time to remind people, but no one seemed to enter when I reminded. I might run another one after christmas to give rid of some Christmas stuff...I still have a lot left over from last Christmas.

cannot forget, refuse to regret...

Maroon 5, I just realized, have played a rather large part of my life. Large part meaning their songs are accessories in events of my life. And I just realized it. I am serious. I am currently sitting around watching FUSE and the Maroon 5 Take Over special they are playing at the moment. I just finished watching an interview with Adam Levine and Jess Carmichael. (I think that was his name.) And it just kind of hit me that I think Songs About Jane is the most listened to disk I own. I am serious.

I bought Songs About Jane while I was in Scotland. I went to a music shop on Byers Road I think after I was Done. (Why is that capitalized? Well, because I was Done and it was a big deal. And in being Done, I was through with the strange, made no sense to me not relationship I was having at the time. I was just Done.) I went to the music shop to buy the McFly CD. I had been hearing the McFly song on the radio every morning and decided I liked the idea of British surf rock. I was standing in the music shop and was all ready holding the McFly CD and was staring at the Maroon 5 CD and thought, "Hey, I'm Done, I'm buying both and a latte."

So I bought it and a latte and went to lunch.

The McFly CD wouldn't import on to my computer (Jess, the Evil Laptop), but the Maroon 5 CD did. I ended up importing it and listening to it in one go and then watching the music videos that were on it. I had all ready bought three songs by Maroon 5 off of iTunes when I was back in the states, as "She Will Be Loved" was the theme of the past summer. I ended up falling in love with almost all the tracks on that disk and "Through With You" became one of the most listened to song on my iTunes on Jess the Evil Laptop. For years. I bet if I opened it up now, it'd still in the top ten. The next summer, the disk was ALWAYS in my disk player in my car. It was always in the car and when I would re-discover it I would stick it in and it'd be the player until my husband removed it. When I had the s40 with its 6 CD changer, it was ALWAYS in the player and I was sad when we got the 4Runner, because it only had one spot for CDs.

Today, I realized, while in college I bought bought almost anything Maroon 5 had put out, I had not bought anything since. I had stared at their last CD a lot, but had never bought it as it always was 13.99 and I just never had 13.99 when I saw it.

I have 13.99. iTunes is also no longer dumb. I today, I finally bought their last CD they put out, but did not pre-Order their next disk. I need to hear a few more song before I jump onto the next disk.

Songs About Jane is an awesome disk and if you do not own it, you totally should. But that is just my opinion. I tend to think about various place in Glasgow, Scotland when I hear it, so maybe that is why I like it so much. "Through With You" tends to remind me of the stairway in the Adam Smith Building. "Tangled" for some unknown reason reminds me of crossing the street from Kelvingrove Park to University Ave. "Not Coming Home" reminds me of my dorm room. "This Love" reminds me of sitting in that same dorm room with L and watching the music video with her and her informing me Adam was hot. "She Will be Loved" will always remind me, not of Glasgow, but of Galena, IL, as that was where I first heard it and began to cry while sitting waiting to go somewhere with my family. During my senior year of college I decided I wanted "The Sun" to be the first dance at my wedding (I did not have dancing at my wedding, but the music play list I had made to play during dinner had it on there.)

Certain lines of the songs really stuck with me during this point in my life. Almost every song on there I felt was pertinent to that point in my life. Not many CDs can do that, in all honesty. The McFly CD was just fun music. The Muse CD I bought while I was over there, while much loved by me, did not fit perfectly into my line of thought. (Other than "The Small Print" and maybe "Falling Away With You.")

That is all. You may now go about your won lives again.
