It happened this week. I told someone I was wearing something I had had since high school. Upon realizing this, I was amazed and wondrous, as the size I am now and the size I am now are like night and day.
So, here's what happened. I went to a coffee shop with a friend of mine who was in town. We both wished to escape tiny humans and enjoy a conversation that was not interrupted by the tiny humans (or the husbands). Something you don't realize when you usually converse with a two-year-old and not an adult: you can't have a conversation while there are toddlers present, as they will demand your attention either by talking over you or falling on their face. So, we left the tiny humans with our husbands and escaped for two glorious hours of adult conversation at a local coffee shop.
Now, I love this coffee shop. It was the first one suggested to me upon arrival, but I nixed because it was tiny, cramped, and dark. I wound up going there because it was small and I had a tiny human who was crawling everywhere. I fell in love with it for an array of reasons, none having to do with the coffee. They have a FULL-SIZE CHANGING TABLE. They also gave my daughter a full cup of whipped cream mostly because she was so well behaved while my friend and I had coffee. EMO was maybe nine months at the time. She was crawling and I spent the majority of the time chasing her down when she'd get too far from me. (I would have just let her crawl away, but there were others in the shop and they didn't seem to think I should be letting my kid crawl around the coffee shop.) But, she didn't fuss or complain, simply went back to exploring once I brought her back to our corner. The other's times I've taken her, they've almost always given her something, though never again a full cup of whipped cream (which I ate most of because she was too busy crawling away).
The last time I'd gone to the coffee shop to get coffee with my dad, they'd totally redone the place and it felt bigger, brighter, and totally different, so I wanted to go sit in it and enjoy it without a toddler. While the barista was crafting our lattes, he mentioned that my jean jacket was a hot trend and they were "totally back." (Yes, he did, in fact, say that to me.) We proceeded to have a conversation about how things keep coming back in fashion. He really wanted the 80s to return and for men to wear crop tops. (I was not aware that was a thing for dudes in the 80s, but what the hell do I know? I wore whatever my mother put me in throughout my life in the 80s.) My friend mentioned henleys were coming back in and she'd just gotten rid of her whole collection of henleys, to which I responded, "I only ever get rid of stuff that doesn't fit. If it fits, I keep it just in case."
This is very true. Hence why I have a jean jacket from high school. I also have my Doc Martens from high school. All three pairs. (Which until two years ago when I bought a pair of full price Tory Burch flats, were the most expensive shoes I had ever bought for myself at $120 for the shoes and $110 for the sandals.) I have a sweatshirt and top from Abercrombie. They belonged to my brother and he rejected them. They swam on me in high school, they fit now. The jean jacket was also too big when originally purchased. And here's why: my mom refused to believe me when I told her I wore an XS.
Yup. She refused to believe that at seventeen I knew what size I wore. I had been in denial for a few years, but by that point, I had owned up to the fact I wore a size zero. I accepted it and had embraced the fact I was non-existant. I knew, in the back of my head, that so many of my peers would have loved to buy size zero jeans from American Eagle, who have been jealous of me as I bought double zero jeans from Abercrombie (yeah, double zero. I was double non-existent at Abercrombie & Finch). I wore XS shirts because I had no boobs and going to a bigger size didn't make the shirts any longer.
My mother, who did my laundry, honestly thought I was wearing clothes that were too small simply based on what these items looked like when she washed them. She commented quite often about the size of the shirts when she'd washed them, but never when they were on me. She bought me a crop top. I was never brave enough to really wear it, but she did buy it for me. I've no idea why. I was sixteen. She told me I ought to embrace the body I had at the moment as one day it'd be gone.
Like usual, she was right. And I did listen to her, hence why I owned up to the fact I was not a size 4 and began buying the size that fit: zero. (And man did I feel better about myself when I no longer had a saggy butt and had to wear belts to keep my too large pants up.)
Anyways, in the spring of my junior year, for some reason, we were at Old Navy. I didn't really shop at Old Navy in high school after I embraced my non-existence because they didn't make non-existent clothing. So, my mother and I were at Old Navy and she proclaimed she was buying me clothes. This was strange for a wide array of reasons. She had decided when I was ten she wasn't ever buying me clothing and since I was thirteen I had to pay for my own clothes. Also, I didn't NEED anything. By this point in my life, I had enough clothing to clothe the entire school and then some. (Not that many people wore non-existant sized clothing. This was tragic on many levels, most being I could never trade clothes with my girlfriends as they all wore size four or larger.) But, I was not about to argue with my mom paying for clothes, so I went along for the ride.
We both really liked what the mannequin was wearing, so she agreed I could get the jean jacket and red checkered shirt. When we went to get the clothes, I discovered Old Navy actually carried XS. (They did not have size zero pants, though. I did check.) I grabbed the XS, but my mother said, "No. You're not that small."
I think I blinked.
"You need a small."
I did not argue with her. I simply agreed and got the small shirt and jacket.
As whenever I have new clothes, I was super excited to wear the new outfit and planned to wear it on a field trip to the art museum in downtown Chicago. The morning of the trip, I excitedly put my new stuff on and realized a major flaw.
Everything was too big. The shirt was swimming on me, especially in the chest area. Even with my super bra (either filled with air or water, as Victoria Secret carried both to give you bigger boobs and since I had none and everyone who made clothing seemed to think us non-existant people had huge boobs, I had to wear padded bras and the ones filled with air or water looked more natural), the shirt was too big. I put the coat on over it and the coat was down passed my knuckles-- which was great. I loved sleeves that were too long, but the jacket was not the fitted, cute thing it was on the mannequin. It was wide and boxy.
I wore the outfit anyway, as I was running late and figured that at least my pants fit. I didn't take the jacket off all day and no one told me I looked cute.
I never wore the shirt and jacket again while in high school. I've no idea where the shirt went, but I hung onto the jacket. I think my mom sent me off to college with it. I wore it one day and discovered the pockets were sewn in such a manner they gave me inside pockets that were perfect for my ID. So, I wore it a lot in college because it had extra pockets. The jacket even went to Scotland with me. When cooler weather rolls around, I always unearth it from where ever it is and start wearing it again.
As I stood in the coffee shop at thirty-three-years-old and now wearing a size 8, I stared at the jacket I've merrily worn since I became a size 4. It's always fit since that time. Always. (Except when I was six months pregnant and it didn't button over my humungous boobs.) Was my jacket kinda like the Traveling Pants? It was kinda like a traveling coat. It's been to Scotland, Alaska, Texas, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Oklahoma. It's likely to go off and go to more places because every time I've sat down to replace the stupid thing, I can never find a better coat. And yes, I have sat down to replace it a few times. There's just never a coat that's...well, that coat. So, I give up and just go back to wearing a coat bought by my mother in 2001.
And, guess what? I'm totally in fashion right now with my sixteen-year-old denim coat.

adventures in online consignment and designer jeans
Since having Wiggles, my body is different. One: I still weight ten pounds more than I did before Wiggles decided to implant herself and grow. Two: how I carry that extra ten pounds is different than how I usually carry weight. Last time I had a huge weight gain, EVERYTHING grew wider. Hips, waist, bust, legs, arms...you get the idea. This time those pesky ten pounds (or sixteen after the holidays) sits right where Wiggles used to hang out. Only, now instead of being all hard and baby filled, it's just saggy and empty. I can feel my abs once more, but after eight months, I accepted the fact it's kind of here to stay. My hips aren't all that wider, but my waist is two inches wider than it was before Wiggles. (BW.)
So, I sighed and chucked my favorite Lucky Brand jeans, those VS jeans I've had since I was 25, and my various other jeans/pants. (Except my American Eagle ones I've had since I did that first major weight gain while in Del Rio. Those, oddly, still fit me just fine. No clue why as the others are all the same style, just different brands. But whatever.) I dreaded, deeply dreaded, finding new pants. I have never liked buying new pants. Mostly because they don't make pants for me. When I was a twig, nothing fit because unlike most twigs, I had hips and a butt. (Go figure.) And while I matched up measurement wise perfectly with a size six across the board, some times I needed a four, sometimes a two, and once a zero.
After Wiggles (AW), I don't fit in anywhere. My hips are the same size, my bust depends on the day of the week, and my waist is a size ten. I wouldn't mind wearing a size ten. I don't care about the number, I mostly care about how my butt is going to fit into a size ten. Because while my so called waist is a size ten, my butt is still a size six. And I know there are a whole bunch of people who have a similar problem. And I know there are pants that are made for people like me. However, I cannot try these pants on easily because I live in the middle of nowhere.
Also, I don't want to pay a lot of money, but I really wanted designer jeans. I mean, I've always wanted designer jeans, but I didn't understand paying 100 or more for jeans. I had a heart attack when I hit the buy button on my Lucky Brand jeans and they were only 88, and I got extra marked off for being a first time buyer on the website. But, that's a lot of money for a pair of pants.
Then, while buying clothing for Wiggles, I realized: If they have online consignment for children, they must have them for women. I had seen a news story back when I was pregnant about online congisnment, but it was mostly really high end stuff and mostly purses. I didn't need a new purse (shocking, I know), but I did need new pants.
So, after buying Wiggle's some new jammies to fit her super long body from Moxie Jean , I did a web search for online consignment. I wound up on a website called ThredUp. I surfed around, looking at what they had, what they took, and realized it was right up my alley. It was a mix of high end and the middle of the road. Basically, everything I wore and what I aspired to.
My first order, I ordered mostly jeans. Because that was what I needed. After much deliberation, I decided I'd try a size 29, a size up from what all my old jeans were and a size down from what all the sites claimed I needed for my new waist. While, when you order enough to get free shipping your order will take what feels like a life time to zigzag from California to where you are (sometimes being mere miles away yet going to Dallas for some reason), it is worth it. The prices for their lightly used designer items is great and you can easily return anything that doesn't fit. You have to pay for the return, but clothes are light and if they are heavy, flat boxes work just fine.
Anyhoo, I got four pairs of jeans to start out. James Jeans, Citizens of Humanity, Hudson, and 7 For All Mankind. All size 29.
The James Jeans were rather tight, but they were supposed to be legging jeans. After I wore them a few hours, they stretched out perfectly. Now I just air dry them on a hanger pulling the waist to keep the shape I molded.
Citizen for Humanity fit perfectly right out of the box. They were also trouser style, which I LOVE. They reminded me of my favorite pair of Levi's had in college that bit the dust awhile ago. (I still have them, but don't wear them for fear of them falling apart.) My only issue: after two wears, they loose their shape and fall down all the time. I had totally forgotten this was an issue for regular jeans. I hadn't had this issue until I tried to wear maternity jeans, but it seems to be my new world. As the Hudson jeans did the same thing. Even if I wear a belt, by the second wear, I'm always pulling my pants up.
The 7 For All Mankind jeans didn't fit at all. Couldn't even button them. So, I sent them back with other items that didn't fit and ordered the next size up. I have a feeling since they fit perfectly right out of the box, in a few hours I'll be pulling them up as well. Such is life. While reordering the 7s, I ordered a pair of green jeggings by Habitual. Never heard of them, but green pants! They looked like they'd be way too small, but they fit fine but were super long. All the jeans I got claimed to have 32 inch inseams. Well, except the 7s. They claim they have 31. I'm not sure who measures inseams of the jeans I've been wearing, as I've always worn a 32 when I want to wear flats and a 34 when I wear heels. Clearly, when the company claims it's a 32, it's really not because none of my former jeans were too long unless they were 34s.
Maybe I shrunk?
Now, I've also used the selling side of this site. I sent in a bag before the holidays. However, due to the volume of people unloading clothing on them, they are backed up and I haven't gotten my itemized list of what they took. I did, at the same time, send off a bunch of Wiggle's old stuff to Moxie and heard back. I sent in 102, but they only took 64. They did tell me why they didn't take the items they rejected and all things that are nice (which mine were) are donated to a local charity. Hence why I went with them when I was doing my research for kids consignment online. (There's thrift stores in this place, but no kid consignment.) ThredUp also says they donate the things they don't take, so I view it as either way, I get it out of my house easily and get a little bit of money (or store credit. For Moxie if you spend your money one their site, you get ten bucks extra. I will be spending it there, as Wiggles keeps growing.)
Alright, I must end this entry of somewhat random pointlessness and dry my hair before Wiggles wakes up from her nap as I said I'd go to a fini flight (Final Flight) for one of our friends whose getting the hell out of Dodge.

Back in the Day...
Recently, a childhood friend of mine posted an old school photo on Facebook.
I was utterly mortified. I looked like a complete idiot.
I was an adorable child. My parents will tell you this, other people might agree, and I will tell you this. However, around the age of about ten or eleven, I turned into a complete, awkward mess. I'm not sure if it had to do with getting glasses or what, but something happened between fourth and fifth grade. And it only got worst till I was a junior in high school. I still tended to take horrible photos, but I stopped looking so awkward and geeky. (Sometimes.) I also finally stopped hacking off my hair to channel a mushroom.
But I digress.
The photo posted on Facebook (or The Facebook as some people call it) was from fifth grade. Oddly, I was actually wearing my glasses (I tended to forget them till I was in about seventh grade when I finally became blind enough to be unable to function without them). I also, for some unknown reason, tucked my shirt into my high waisted jeans. I know, back in 1995, those were like the ONLY type of jeans out there, but still. WHY DID I TUCK MY SHIRT IN? Out of the seven or six girls in the photo, only two of us were sporting tucked in shirts. And since I was the short one with the tucked in shirt, tapered jeans, and granny boots, I looked like an awkward mess. Even for 1995.
With the exception of the girl who posted the photo and one other, each person (besides myself) commented on the photo how, well, horrible she looked. Each one thought she looked the worst, completely passing over myself. (Who did look the worst. My brother agreed.) The photo had been up for quite a few days before I realized that likely all of us were totally embarrassed (in a ha ha ha kind of way) of how we appeared as kids. For the most part, when I see photos of myself as a kid, I don't cringe at the clothes. Yeah, I look dated, but for the most part I think I look fine. It's not till I hit that awkward stage (around the time of the photo), where I want to crawl into a hole and hide.
Though, out of all the years, I think my junior high years were the worst. I remember thinking during those years I looked GREAT. My mom let me have more control over my wardrobe (in eighth grade she took me to Old Navy to buy clothes and I almost passed out, as she never took me to "cool" places to shop. I had to take my dad) and I had wire rimmed glasses (which at the time I thought were great and cool).
My hair kept getting shorter, the glasses kept getting geekier, and I had braces. And I am just awkward. I am still awkward. I just can dress and do my hair now. In high school, when I finally stopped trying to channel a mushroom, I finally stopped looking like a complete train wreck. By the time I went to college, I had "style."
Seriously.
I never thought I had my own style. I wanted to look like everyone else. I shopped at the "in" stores (especially after I got a license and a credit card). My hair was finally somewhat under my control and not always in a scrunchie. (Oh god, the scrunchies...) My basic goal in life was not to look like an award mess.
But style? That was the farthest thing from my mind. Yet, for some reason, all my friends seemed to think I was the fashionable one, the one with style, and the one to come to when they had clothes questions.
I spent a lot of time blinking my first year of college when this would happen.
As I went through college, it kind of went to my head. Especially when this one well dressed girl told me she liked my style. I was totally flattered. And blinked a lot.
When I look back at photos from my college years (or late high school), I do not cringe at my hair, clothing choices, or glasses. Even when I still sported the braces, I looked okay. I do cringe at photos of me from after I got married, but not due to what I'm wearing. I usually cringe because I think my face looks fat or something else along those lines. Or why or why did I cut my hair off before we went to Del Rio? I look like a moron with short hair. I don't know why, but I think I look like a loser. And it always makes my face look fuller, so then I look fatter. (I know I am not fat. Even at the moment, I know I am not fat. If I were fat, I'd fit into my maternity jeans and I would have to take them in on the sides to avoid them a) falling down and b) having mom butt.)
That is another thing I began to contemplate while staring at this photo from 1995: will my daughter be an award mess like myself? She will be blind (I'm blind and Pilot Boy was blind till he let some doctor cut his eye up with lasers) and she will likely have some crazy hair. (When Pilot Boy has hair, it's curly and I've got a wavy/curly/straight mess on my head.) Will she likely listen to me when I try to tell her to do something because she will later want to hide her face in her hands when looking at a photo some twenty years later?
No. Just like I didn't listen to my own mother. I doubt she'll listen to me. Such is life.

This Is Mostly About Clothes
So, I'm pregnant. You know, knocked up, preggers, with child, blooming, glowing, kind of round...that thing women of a certain age tend to do.
I don't know why anyone gets pregnant.
Okay, I do know why people do. They want the baby you get at the end. At least that is why I got pregnant. I've heard some people ENJOY being pregnant.
I hate being pregnant. It's like having a never ending period, only no bleeding. You get the cramps, the headaches, the upset tummy, and on top of all that you loose your waist. And there is this tiny being inside who decides it'd be a great idea to do headstands on your bladder all night long. (I swear to god that was what she was doing last night as I had to pee all night long.)
I spent the past six months feeling completely rotten, throwing up, and not looking pregnant.
Yeah, that sucked.
I only began to look pregnant about two weeks ago. And I'm six months pregnant. I didn't even really start gaining wait till about three weeks ago. Yeah, you think I'm lucky. I might not have been gaining weight, but I was loosing my hips and waist. One doesn't realize how vital hips and waists are for holding up pants until you don't have them. I couldn't wear my maternity bottoms because it was all too big (I had no bump), nor could I wear my old stuff because it didn't stay up. Yeah, I could button my jeans, I could wear my skirts without an extender (till about last week), but they didn't stay up. Just like all the new maternity pants I'd gotten.
I still only have ONE pair of maternity jeans that kind of fit. They are still uncomfortable. I do, though, like the whole pull up concept going on with maternity jeans, but I do not like the whole...panel up over my stomach thing as I am always hot and it itches. I don't know why it itches, but it does. And it never stays up. It is dumb. I've got pairs that are "under belly" and I like those, only two pairs are way too big and don't even stay up, while the other one claimed to have a 32 inch inseam, but they don't. I took them down, but they still are too short. And I'm not tall.
It's been hit or miss with shirts. The maternity tops I got from The Gap...they are all made for third trimester bellies. Or something. They are HUGE in the belly area. They still look baggy on me. The tops I've picked up from Ross...not sure other than the ruching on the sides how they are maternity tops. But hey, they're only five bucks. I've gotten tops from lots of places and they all claim to be wearable through all stages, yet quite a few of them I can't really wear yet because my belly isn't large enough and I look like I'm swimming in the top...on the bottom. While I don't think my boobs are huge, they are (hence why I can't really wear my pre-pregnancy tops. My stupid boobs don't fit).
The most success I've had with anything maternity is in dresses. They fit me like dresses from before I got knocked up. And I've gotten them from ASOS. The best tops I got were from there as well.
So, besides being unable to clothe myself, the never ending nausea, the random throwing up, having no energy, loosing my waist and hips, and having a tiny being inside of me who likes to kick and do headstands on my bladder-- it's been great.

Developments in Sizing
So....
When I was in high school, I wore a lot of stuff from Abercrombie. I had to wear the x-small because I was...well, extra small. Everywhere. I had no boobs. I had a tiny little waist. I was basically a walking skeleton that did not enjoy buying extra small shirts and 00 pants. Because I thought it made me unhealthy. (Which is true, my doctor kept telling me to put some weight on me, but it took a good ten years to sink in.)
Anyways, the last thing I got from Abercrombie was when I was 21 and I ordered a sweater. I had boobs by this point and had about two inches more to my waist and some hips.
I am currently sitting in my house wearing a LARGE sweatshirt from Abercrombie.
It does not fit like a large. I expected to be slightly swimming in this thing, if I am honest with you. Because while I would not put myself into an extra small these days, I'd think I'd at least maybe need a medium. I read the size chart before I ordered it too. My chest is not 37-39 inches. Okay? It's 34. What the hell do people who actually have that size chest do? Because this sweatshirt would be way too tight on them. According to the size chart on the website, I need a small.
I do not need a small. I NEED A FREAKING LARGE.
Now, this has occured to me before, where I follow the size charts online only to discover they are WAY OFF.
During my skeleton phase, American Eagle claimed I needed a size 6. Yeah. Guess what happened when skeleton Ireland put those suckers on? During my time in the dirt hole, I had many battles with Victoria Secret. The website claimed I was a size 8/10. I was like, SERIOUSLY? Everywhere else, I was a 4/6. So I ignored the website and ordered my usual size. For most items, the things fit. The shorts that were a size 6 were swimming on me. The shirts that were smalls, sometimes were too tight in the chest, sometimes were fine. If it was a tank top, it was fine. If it had sleeves, it almost always had to go back for a medium. In swimsuits (which were a whole different size chart all together) I was a large top and a medium bottom. (I KNOW LARGE TOP? ARE YOU SERIOUS?) I ended up with a medium top (which was kind of small, I guess I did need a large...) and a large bottom (which was too big, go figure?) Moral of the VS website: their swimsuit guide is correct. Trust nothing else.
I am very average, okay? I have probably the most average measurements known to man, okay? I do not understand why things are sized so wildly. I mean, I don't CARE what size I wear. I don't care I am wearing a large sweatshirt. The thing that annoys me is I wanted it to be BIGGER. Large is the LARGEST size Abercrombie sells. And, well, so sue me, I like their sweatshirts. I guess if I want a nice comfy one, I'll have to get a dude's one. But....what does a person with big boobs do if they want to wear Abercormbie shirts? They can't wear a large....because I don't have big boobs. They are average.
Or am I just totally out of the loop? I mean, I shop at like two places: Target and Old Navy. In juniors lines at Target, I wear a M. In everything else, usually a S. Their sizing is very consistent. If I buy a large, it will be bigger on me. At Old Navy, it's usually a S or M, depending on the item (Old Navy is totally wild in sizing things. They have no consistency in the least...it's the only place in the world I try things on before I buy them.)
This is why I like shoes. I buy and 8 1/2 and it fits. And if its too big, I just stuff an insert in and wear heavy socks. BAM. It fits. (I have average size feet too, it's almost impossible to find an 8 1/2 on the sale rack...and it's almost always the first size to run out online...)
Though, purses are the best. They have no size and they will always fit. Purse rock.

Spring Trends
Most of my life I only paid half attention to trends. Mostly because I have always known what I liked and did not liked and most trends actually annoyed me.
Things I like:
Vests (any kind)
Wide legged pants
Wedges
Sweaters with white collared shirts
Plaid
Argyle
Brown eye makeup
Nude lips
Bright colors on nails
Silver jewlery
Pearls
Hoop earings
Sunglasses
Things I do not like:
high rise pants
skinny, super low rise jeans
Stilettos (gasp)
super low rise pants
short shirts (belly bearing tops)
straight leg pants
Black eye makeup
Heavy eye makeup
Super bright blush
Nude nail polish
Gold jewerly
Bright lipsticks
I don't know what it is about this spring, but I've been paying a little attention to trends. Several trends this spring I kinda dig. These trends are:
Orange lips
Wide leg pants (Bell bottom type jeans!)
Wedges
Coral
Where did I get this information? Piperlime and Sephora.
I have bought orange lip gloss (D20) and orange lipstick (Siren). I was kind of shocked how well orange worked on me as I have always steered clear of bold lip choices. I have never been able to pull off any sort of bold lipstick, so I just don't like it for the most part.
When I noticed the Gap was carrying these pants, I almost had a heart attack. For months I've been looking for a wide leg flare to replace my beloved Levi's. However, these pants and I have a few issues. One: The regulars are two inches too long to wear with heels. Two: The petites are too short to wear with shoes. Three: they shrink length wise in the washer, but not enough to make a difference in the regulars, but do make a huge difference in the petites. Four: They cannot hold their shape up top. They only make it through two days of wear before they begin to no longer hug one in the right places. Five: They are a higher rise, and it doesn't stay up very well after they start loosing their grip. The rise also doesn't allow for belt wearing very easily and when you wear a longer top, you can always see the top of the pants.
And yes, I do own two pairs of these pants. One in regulars one in petites. I first ordered the petites, as the regulars were swimming on me. I was in love with the pants when I first got them. I wore them for three days before I figured I needed to wash them.
It was down hill from there.
I cold water washed, then let them air dry. They were super slouchy in the butt after this. So, I decided to dry them on low in teh dryer. Still slouchy in the butt. So, next time I washed them without any fabric softener and dried them as I would normally. This was when I realized they had shrunk a lot. They were a little long when I first got them, as in they were perfect to wear with my winter boots. Once I had washed them three times, they were way too short and looked dumb. Thus, I can only wear these pants in the warmer months here with flip flops and flats. Very flat flats. So, I ordered a pair of regulars. Because I REALLY WANTED THESE PANTS TO WORK.
I hemmed the regulars so they are fine in the leg now. However, they still go all slouchy in the butt after two or three wears. THIS IS NOT GOOD. I think its the mixture of spandex and cotton on the jeans. I don't know why The Gap feels like they need 2% spandex in the pants. 1% is pushing it I think. My VS jeans have 1% spandex and that is fine. They are still thick and jean like. I have up trying to find jeans without spandex awhile ago, but it still annoys me.
But, I am so happy to see wide legged pants back! I wasn't really feeling the whole skinny jean thing. Granted I do own a few pairs of them, mostly to wear with my knee high boots. I do like that look, but I think my legs look funky in skinny jeans with flats or just heels.
I have always loved wedges. I have not bought any wedges this season though. I have a pair of wedge heels (the most comfortable heels I own. They are amazing and I got them from Sears). I also have two pairs of wedge sandals that I got in Del Rio by Aerosoles. They are super comfortable too.
I love the color coral. I was over the moon when I saw it being carried this season. I also happen to look pretty good in coral. I even bought coral lipstick.

I gotta whole lotta things
Operation Jeans Update:
Day Six: Was loopy.
Day Seven: Did two miles. Well, kinda. About half way through my feet began to sear with pain, I had to stop and fiddle with my shoes. Now, my thighs hurt. I might have over did the knee lifts...
Day Six of Operation Jeans was a total bust because I took Excedrin and Zyrtec, which for some unknown reason leaves me feeling loopy and kinda outta of my mind. I can't seem to do anything that requires any thought and if I do, it ends up going wrong. So, usually, on days I have to take the two drugs together, nothing gets done.
Nothing also seems to get done when Pilot Boy is home. The kitchen exploded again. He's yet to explode all over the bedroom, but that is only due to the fact he still has not unpacked his bag.
This weekend I plan to clean out closets. We've only been in this house for a year and two things have happened: We've filled the closets and we still haven't unpacked everything. Which is partly why the closets are full. We need some spring cleaning STAT.
I went to the Gap today and tried on the jeans I've been lusting after online. They were...disappointing. They did not fit how I imagined or wished and they were kind of sagging in the rear area. NOT A GOOD THING PEOPLE. I think I might just order the jeans I have in regulars and hem them so I can wear heels. I really wanted an easy fit, kinda wide flare jean. In a lighter color than the ones I have (which also go saggy in the butt, but if you do not use fabric softener and put them in the dryer and put it on high, then they hold their shape a bit longer). Alas, I think my dream jeans are not in production. I also need to go through the jeans I have and get rid of the ones I can a) not longer get over my knee and b) no longer button.
Well, that's it. Good bye.

Loud and Clear Jeans, I HEAR YOU.
Hey. I have been here a year.
And once again, I'm ten pounds heavier.
So, all the weight I managed to shed this summer returned. Blast you winter hibernation.....
So, once again, I am standing here wondering why none of my jeans fit right. Damn jeans. Why can't you just grow along with me?
I do not want to buy new jeans. I hate buying new jeans. Or anything for my bottom half. I like shirts. And shoes. Oh, those go on your bottom half. Well, I like shoes and socks, but anything between my waist and my ankles, I dislike buying things for. Hence why I have a billion shirts. And shoes.
Handbags always fit. That is why I make them. They always fit.
Anyways, since I hate the gym here with a flaming passion, I can't run to save my life (seriously, if I had to run to save my life, I'd die. Because I cannot run), and it is always cold and no one plows around here, I think I'll have to start doing those Walk Away The Pound DVDs my mom gave to me because she didn't like them. The only downside to them, the last time I religiously used them (Before I got married), my knees always hurt. Between walking two miles a day to the court hours (YAY CONRAD!) and then walking away the pounds at night, my knees were killing me. Then I bought new shoes that were too small (DAMN YOU NIKE!). Anyways, I have good shoes now...my knees haven't hurt when I do workout here, so I guess they still have some way to go...
Why am I telling you this? Because, I am going to try something new to maybe keep myself going. Every day I manage to work out, I'm totally going to post and tell you. If I fail to do this at least three times a week, please yell at me. Because while I hate gyms, if I work out with others, I am more apt to do it. (Like in college! E made me go. Someone was COUNTING on me. I think I was simply broken in the Dirt Hole when I managed to go to the gym three days a week.) So, tomorrow, I plan to put my fancy work out clothes on and Walk Away The Pounds for one mile (20 minutes). We'll work up from there because....I....am....out...of...shape. But at least sometimes I can breathe.
Goals: Fit into Jeans Right. There that is my goal. No weight goal, just FIT INTO JEANS goal. Well, I can fit into them, I just can't breathe properly for the first hour they are on my butt. My goal is to fit into jeans. Or pants. I do wear other things other than jeans. My mini skirts are still fit...and might not be too big...I haven't worn them in awhile. IT IS COLD. It needs to be at least 30 to wear a mini skirt.
So GO! (You can workout too. And then tell me if you want. Or not. BUT I AM TELLING YOU.)

Best Dressed Hermit
For about an hour today I felt rather worthless and jealous. Why?
I don't hang out with people. I don't really have anyone to hang out with, if I am honest. I know people here in Alaska. I know a few, but the key word is KNOW. These people are not ones I feel comfortable texting/calling/emailing/contacting in any way. If they contact me that is find and dandy. I might go somewhere with them.
Or not. Depends on my mood and if my hair is done.
For an hour today, I felt like there was something wrong me me.
Then I took a shower.
I'm a hermit and have always been a borderline loner. (I say borderline because I get lonely sometimes and feel the need for human contact.)
I'm a really well dressed hermit too. I am serious. I get dressed almost daily and I get "overdress." I have outfits I put together and I wear them. I put makeup on and sometimes I do not leave the house. This always confounded my mother, my getting dressed up to go nowhere (the makeup thing started since I began paying big bucks for makeup, figure I should use it.) I feel better when I am in an outfit, dressed up. There are a few times where I just wore bum clothes and had to be social in them. And it did not go well. One time that jumps to my mind is when my husband had his "solo" flight. He took the keys to both cars, so I figured I wasn't going. I took a shower, tossed on some junk clothing and let my hair air dry. Then, D called and PICKED ME UP and I had to stand around in my junk clothing with my crazy hair and no makeup. Least to say, I was totally embarrassed by the photo of me as I look squat and fat. I work hard to conceal the fact I am short legged and fat. That is why people do not think I am 1) short or 2) fat. (My husband thinks I am sort, but that's because he's almost a foot faller than me, or so it seems when he puts things on the top shelf and I can't reach it.)
So, I get dressed daily. I do my hair. I put on makeup. And sometimes I don't leave the house. Because I don't like to leave the house. And if I do leave the house, 95.5% chance it is by myself. I shop by myself. I entertain myself. I cook for myself. (I lie. I can't cook.) Tragically, though, I have this crazy idea I need to be wild and crazy and popular. As a child I always wanted to be the popular girl, but I would never be popular due to the fact I was quiet and awkward. I learned in college I was awkward because I had no self esteem. As I learned more about myself, I realized I could be fine on my own and I actually kinda liked being on my own.
Well, kinda.
I like having my dog to talk to. As a kid I talked to my clothes. (I pretended they were people, so in my own head I had a lot of friends. Oh, and I had screwdrivers as friends too. Yeah, I didn't play with dolls, I played with screwdrivers.) I was on my own as a child often, as I remember a lot of the neighborhood kids parents worked, so they weren't around during the day. So I played myself and I could do this for hours. I entertained myself with my own imagination till high school when I had a demanding friend. I never had to entertain myself after that and after she was gone I realized I had no idea what to do with myself. I had to re-learn how to entertain myself. Luckily, I still know how to entertain myself since I decided to become a professional hermit.
What do I do on a daily basis?
I get up, let the dog out, feed the dog, feed me, watch TV, sew/craft/write, feed myself, feed the dog, be creative, play video games, text, text, text, talk on the phone, feed the dog, feed myself, write/post purses/blog/surf internet, shop, eat, chase the dog and then go to sleep.
I find putting on makeup entertaining and creative by the way.
I'm a well dressed loner hermit who wants to be popular but has no desire to try.
Interesting huh?

Outfit Homerun
I'm going through a miniskirt phase. I bought a miniskirt at Old Navy for two bucks awhile ago, and now that fall has arrived, I've been wearing it a lot with knee high riding boots. So, today, the 2 dollar miniskirt was dirty, so I wore a pencil skirt instead. I wore white fishnets, my awesome boots, the khaki pencil skirt, green turtle neck and my Military inspired coat I got from Kolhs. I don't have pictures and this isn't a style blog, so you'll have to use your imagination.
Anyways, I went to Old Navy today because I wanted a corduroy mini. That was all I was going to get, but they had so many things on sale...like the cami's with the bras built in, basic t-shirts and that awesome thing they do where they give you an extra 30% off the clearance price. Tragically, there were no corduroy minis, but there were other minis. So I got three minis. A dark denim one, a pigment dyed green one, and a tan corduroy one, which wasn't in clearance but was amazingly on sale for 16 bucks (I thought it was 24.)
Now, let's get to the title of this post. First off, I thought I looked kind of silly, but I REALLY wanted to wear a skirt and fishnets. I figured I'd buy a mini skirt and go home and change and then go about my day. Well, while I was there I managed to get a few compliments. My boots almost always get compliments. I got them last spring on super sale. I then, from what looked like a store head hancho, got a compliment on my fishenets. This surprised me on many levels, as I thought they looked kind of silly. (I got white ones because there is this one outfit that Rory Gilmore wears in the sixth season I love and I thought she was wearing white fishnets. Later, I realized, she was wearing black or gray ones. Not white.) When I was checking out, the cashier liked my coat. I love my coat, but I hate the way it closes with eyelets. So, after leaving Old Navy and getting great deals, I also got compliments and felt I had a winning outfit.
Till I got home and put on one of the new minis and realized the mini is the way to go, not a pencil skirt.

Moving Sucks
I can't decide what I hate more: Packing or Unpacking.
We'll start with packing. I hate packing. Mostly because I'm not one for change, but also because I have no patience for it. I just want it all to magically PACK and be done. The two MAJOR moves I did over the past two years, I haven't done much packing because I simply SUCK at packing. I know what you're thinking: How hard can it be to put things in boxes? Well, for me it is hard. Do not ask me why, but it is. When I went to Scotland, my mother packed my bag for me. (I had packed it first but it was horrible, so she re did it, like she did each time I went off to college. You'd think I'd learn. I am made of fail when it comes to packing.) When I left Scotland, my friend J packed my whole life into two suitcases. I had packed it into two suitcases, and maybe ten boxes and there was still stuff everywhere. So, I suck at packing. When we left the dirt hole, we had like five people helping us pack up, and they are all almost professionals because they move so often. When I left home before coming to Alaska, my mother once again aided me in packing. Because I asked. And this time I paid attention and managed to keep myself packed.
Unpacking sucks for various reasons I have concluded. First, everything arrives and is in boxes, so your whole house is covered in boxes. Next, because you suck at packing (as did the movers who re-packed the boxes from the storage unit) nothing is in order. Actually, we were pretty good at packing the boxes in order of the important things, like kitchen stuffs. However, the movers repacked EVERYTHING and there was no rhyme or reason to their packing methods. I color coordinate my clothing in closet, so I packed it in the order. Today, I got to the boxes of clothing...not in any order and there were SCRAP BOOKING SUPPLIES mixed in with it. I know I packed those in the SCRAP BOOKING BOX. They unpacked my scrap booking BOX! As well as my fabric box. I am so pissed, but that isn't why I hate unpacking. I hate unpacking because I simply want it to be done. I want to move onto the more exciting aspects of moving: decorating. I want to paint, I want to get things moving, but you can't do anything till every random item is unpacked. And let me tell you, every random item was packed for us. Even the crap thrown into garbage bags, which I figured we'd just throw out.
In other news, I will be donating a TON of clothing. I have at least three years worth of stuff that we broght with us from our first move to the Dirt Hole (Dirt Hole had no where to donate stuff...can you believe that?) plus the stuff I bought in the dirt hole that I do not want/won't fit my fat butt. God, I thought I had a lot of clothes in Chicago with me, but I had a lot of stuff in storage. Mostly summer stuff, so I am getting rid of it. In all honesty, I did not wear most of it in the Dirt Hole, so why would I wear it in the Tundra I now live in?
I won't, so off it goes!
I guess that is one positive thing of unpacking. You realize all the stuff you can live without.

No one cares, so why should you?
What I managed to do yesterday in relation to my current profession:
I cut out a purse and ironed the pieces.
This was all I did due to the fact after I finished I could barely stand to stand. I know that sewing the thing together would have required me to sit down, but I was also sweating a lot, so I figured I should go take a nap and maybe it'd all go away.
For the most part it did go away, other than my sinus headache, which I've had on and off today, so all I've done today is re-take pictures. Which I should go load onto my brother's laptop and cut them down to size and redo all the purses I've recently put up for sale.
Will I do this? More than likely not.
My mom and I ordered some stuff form this scrapbooking place online. I need a new blade for the paper cutter, as the blade on the on I found in the drawer of the room I live in needs a sharper blade. Somehow we managed to order blade scorers, not cutters. Not good. The site doesn't have any blades, just the odd score thing. The rotary cutter my mom ordered wont' cut cloth and barely cuts paper. It totally butchard the picture I tried to cut with it. The dull blade on the paper cutter is better. My dad gave me his old photo paper cutter he had for his dark room, which hasn't been used since 1992, thus its covered in rust and dust and has to be cleaned. It is also huge and I usually scrapbook in my bed. I know, not the best place, but I'm not one of those crazy scrapbookers. I just stick thing on the page in a haphazard way. Then I stick some stickers on sometimes. When I was on my game, I stuck random objects I had saved in the book, but so far that has only worked when I went to Scotland.
I've been doing more research on the whole going to Alaska in the winter thing and am thinking the ferry looks like a really good idea. I'm not sure its such a steller idea for Basil, but then again, she spends roughly maybe 8 hours a day in her crate when not barking, then about 12 at night in there. The 8 hours during the day is of her own free will. We've been closing the door so she won't hang out in there, but she's been super smart and nosing the door open. We try to keep her out of there at night because once she goes in there after she eats, she won't come out to go potty, which is an issue.
I ordered jeans from Victoria Secret. Finally. I got 34s because that was all they had, but I really need 32s to wear flats (or heels....it seems). They are a little long, but they fit. They are a size smaller than all the shorts I ordered because the shorts are all falling down. Least to say, my butt looks nice in the new jeans, especially when I've got my super heels on. I've also been surfing through White House Black Market looking at dresses. I'm not sure who runs their site, as there's always a bunch of dresses that they don't have any or they show up in the size searches when there are none of the dresses. I am confused. Last weekend I went with my dad to the mall and I hit up WHBM to see if they had the dress I wanted in my size. They only had a size 0. My dad told me to just try it on.
And I did.
I got it zipped up all the way till I hit my boobs. The waist fit. The lower hips fit. My boobs were just too big. Seriously, my boobs were too big! I knew they were huge. Well, huger than they used to be. I needed about another two inches of material around the bust area. I was so shocked. I stood there staring at myself wondering what was going on. The other dress I ordered back in teh dirt hole was a six. The boobs were a little big, so I thought I'd need a four. I never ordered it because I didn't like the dress all that well, but this dress I loved. It was gone from online when I went to look later that day. Then it appeared again last night. Only they only had a size 8. Then it was on there this morning only they did not have any sizes. Now it is gone.
Thus I have become obsessive in my search of the site for dresses. They don't seem to have any in a size two, which is what I'd need I think.
I think I might be wasting away. I'm not sure why. I don't have a gym to go to any more and I seem to eat more here simply out of boredom. I'm not sure what is going on.
Well, that is all.

The hunt for the perfect lbd
Little Black Dresses.
It is said everyone should have one. It is said once you have one, you will always have a go to dress for all occasions.
I own a little black dress. I bought it over a year ago before I was condemned to this dirt hole. I have worn it once and felt really stupid in it. Since that time, I have never had an occasion to wear it again.
I could wear to an up coming event, but I have come to realize that the Little Black Dress I have (bought from Ann Taylor Loft Sale section) is actually a really crappy black dress that should not be worn when ones date is wearing a tux (a funny looking tux, but its a uniform tux...but its still a tux.) I really wanted to wear my wedding dress to this event (my wedding dress is actually a prom dress I bought at Macy's for under 200 dollars thinking, "This is perfect! I can wear it to the various (enter name) function's I'll be forced to go to!" I had not counted on the fact that two things would happen. 1) I'd suddenly put on weight for the first time in my life and 2) my boobs would grow two cup sizes. thus, not able to zip dress up.)
For the past two days I've been on a hunt for a formal dress to wear to this upcoming event. Living in the dirt hole, this hunt is hard pressed. Thus, I have turned my attentions online. At first I did not want a black dress, as my husband's "tux" thing is dark blue (please, do not call it navy blue you might end up dead), and I wanted to stand out against him (hence my thoughts to wear the ivory wedding/prom dress). However, after hunting for two days (and enlisting my mother's aid) I have come to the conclusion that I might just have to make do with a black dress. Most colors are either horrid looking or would look horrid on me. A lot of the dresses are not what I had in mind. A lot of the dresses have high front and backs. This is the sort of dress I was looking for when I was a sophomore going to ho
Anyways, so after spending the day emailing with my mother about dresses, I have a few picked out.
The one at the left here is from White House/Black Market. I like that it is strapless and sort of swishy. Also, it is made out of silk, not polyester.
The dress at the right is made out of nylon. My husband claims it looks exactly like the other one. I think I like the first one more.
The last dress I am considering isn't a black dress at all, but one my mom sent me.
I don't know. I am at a loss.
30 December 2008
and so that was christmas...
Christmas in the dirt hole was a rather surreal experience. For one, it was almost 80 degrees that day and I had the flu, so I was just uncomfortable all day long. It was only my husband, myself and the dog. The dog got a new toy (a bone filled with something smelly) that kept her attention almost all day long. She adored the bone to no end.
Most of our presents were practical presents. We got more of our china (one more place setting, and a group of soup bowls) and more wine glasses. I think we have 12 wine glasses. The fancy ones. We finally have every day ones, as my husband got me the stemless wineglasses I wanted. We got three DVDs (would have been four, but my brother and I were on the same wavelength and got my husband the same DVD...) and two games. It was a good haul, which got better the day after when the clothes arrived. My husbands dad and step mom gave us clothes! (and in the case of my husband shoes).
I adore clothes. I love getting clothes as presents. When I was a kid, I liked getting clothes, but they weren't the same as toys. However, about the time I was in fifth grade, I liked getting clothes. I just did not seem to get the clothes I wanted. My mom didn't seem to be able to get me stuff I'd wear. In fifth grade she gave me a pair of jeans, which I remember I was excited about until I put them on. I HAD HUGE HIPS! I know, why is an twelve year old thinking that way. I know I didn't have huge hips now. I bet they were tiny. But standing on my bed looking at myself in the mirror above my dresser, I was thinking I had huge hips. I all ready thought I had fat legs (I had thought this for a long time, I do not remember when it really started, but I do remember instances when I'd look at other girls my age and think, "Wow, they have really skinny legs. Mine are huge.") Thus, my body image issues began at who knows when, but I can pin point my feelings of huge hips to that moment on Christmas morning. I do not remember if I ever wore the jeans after that, but that was the last time my mom gave me clothes for Christmas. I never got clothes from her again as far as I can remember until I was in college and she gave me work out clothes for my 22 birthday. Man was I excited. I needed new pants to work out in and there they were, perfect workout pants.
I always hoped my family would get me clothes for Christmas, even after the wide hip jeans. They never really did until my grandma started getting me sweaters for Christmas after I was too old for toys and she had no idea what to get me. So, my dad said, "Uh, you can get her a sweater? She wears a size small." And so, I began to get sweaters. I love each one she got me. They were never exactly what I would have gotten, but I realized I loved each one. Freshman year of college she got me a purple sweater (I had to exchange it as she got the wrong size) and I wore it quite a bit. The next year she got me the softest, Grey sweat shirt. I still have it, even if the sleeves are too small for my liking. And the last two items have been pink sweaters. Which I would love to wear, but I live in a dirt hole that is not really cold enough for nice sweaters.
When I started dating my husband, the first Christmas I got a green, fleece jacket from his dad and step mom. The next Christmas (we were married) I got a pearl necklace (so lovely) and this year, I GOT CLOTHES! I WAS LIKE OMG THERE ARE CLOTHES IN HERE FROM THE GAP! I LOVE THESE CLOTHES! And they all FIT! Though, the best was a shirt not from the gap that said "I write." on the front and then on the back listed a the top five things writers hate to hear when they tell people they write. I've heard almost all of them and hate them all equally.
